Giza Spinning and Weaving Highlights
Vertical Manufacturing Capabilities
Giza Spinning and Weaving has been providing the international market with high quality bath towels, beach towels, kitchen towels, bathrobes and bed linens constructed of 100% Egyptian cotton since 1978.
The privately held firm has annual turnover of US $43 million and exports more than 90% of its products to the U.S., Europe and Australia. The U.S. is the company's most important export market and currently represents about 62% of its business.
Giza Spinning executives say the company prides itself on its vertical manufacturing facilities. "We have all of our processes vertically under one roof, starting with raw cotton warehousing and including spinning, weaving, dyeing and finishing, and cut and sew at the same location," points out Mahmoud Marzouk, chief manager of the home textiles department. "Our more than 5,000 employees also handle quality control, administration, finance, merchandising and shipping. And, we intend to have our own designers before the end of this year."
The company currently operates more than 65,000 spindles for ring spun yarn and 15,000 Schlafhorst Reiters for open end yarn; 45 Dornier jacquard towel looms, 18 Smitt dobby towel looms, and 35 Picanol air jet looms; woven and knitted dyeing jets; yarn dyeing equipment; and more than 800 single- and double-needle sewing machines. Giza Spinning's factory has received ISO 9001/2000 and Oextex 100 certification.
Giza Spinning is exhibiting for the first time at Global Home Textiles. "We expect to increase our business in the USA," comments Marzouk. "We will be approaching new and different customers, and exploring the potential opportunities in the U.S. market.".
