Family-Run Pyramids Cotton Makes A Splash in Global Bath Towel Market

Pyramids Cotton is rapidly becoming a major supplier of terry bath towels and bath robes to the international market.

The private, family-owned company was founded in 2005 in Alexandria and currently produces more than 100,000 pounds per month of terry products. The company is investing heavily in new equipment and facilities to increase its production to 300,000 pounds per month by the end of 2008.

"We are currently investing to increase our production capacity to meet our growing client demands," explains Ahmed Salama, president. "Our dobby and jacquard looms are the latest models and offer the greatest flexibility in terry design. In addition to weaving 100% cotton products, we have also started weaving terry products using 100% organic cotton and zero twist yarns.

"Our company caters its products to a diverse client and distributor portfolio, including luxury and standard retail, the hospitality industry, institutional markets and promotional services," Salama continues. "As a family-owned

business, we pay close attention to detail and product quality. The majority of our clients are repeat customers all of whom cite that we produce high quality products at very competitive prices."

Pyramids Cotton currently employs 50 workers at its 50,000 square foot manufacturing facility in the Alexandria Free Trade Zone and exports 100% of its products. Its major markets include Europe, the United States and Canada, with some distribution in North Africa and the Middle East. "The U.S. market is very important to our business. Currently, we export approximately 30% of our production to the United States and we anticipate increasing the amount of our exports to the American and Canadian markets to over 65% in 2008 and more in coming years," Salama says. "Our factory is a participant in the U.S. Trade Representative Alexandria Qualified Industrial Zone (QIZ) which removes all U.S. tariffs and quotas on qualified goods produced at our factory; our U.S. customers and importers do not have to pay U.S. Customs on our products."

"In addition, we are second generation U.S. citizens of Egyptian origin and we have established a company in the U.S., Pyramids Cotton LLC, to facilitate commercial transactions with U.S. customers," he continues. "English is our native tongue which facilitates effective communication and understanding with our U.S. and Canadian customers."
